Australian Dental Council
How top tier support helped the Australian Dental Council implement a comprehensive HRIS with integrated LMS to support a lean HR team.
The Australian Dental Council (ADC) plays a vital role in the accreditation and examination of overseas-trained dentists who wish to practice in Australia. They work to protect the health and safety of the public by ensuring dental practitioners meet the high standards required of dental professionals in Australia.
As the ADC was expanding, they recognised the need to centralise their manual HR processes, integrate their learning and development, and improve efficiency and scalability.
The challenges
Lean HR team needed top tier support
Lack of an integrated LMS to drive professional development
Manual processes relying on Word and Excel
Time-consuming email chains and document handling
Prior to the implementation of ELMO, most of the ADC’s HR processes were manual, relying on a complex string of approval forms, spreadsheets and email chains, causing delays, frustration, and limiting their ability to scale. Seeking a more unified and streamlined approach, the ADC set out to find a HRIS with an integrated Learning Management System (LMS), a performance management system and strong support to meet their needs.
As Laura Malone, the ADC’s Director of People and Culture, explains, “I joined the ADC during a period of growth. When I commenced, I reviewed our systems and I quickly saw opportunities to improve efficiency. This is where ELMO has transformed the way we work.”
When Laura first started, everything – from end-to-end recruitment to performance reviews – was handled through manual processes. This meant the HR team was spending significant time chasing approvals, emails and documents. As the organisation was growing, this was becoming harder to manage.
“Our recruitment process was tedious. Forms circulated between HR and managers with no streamlined system. Each hire meant chasing signatures, setting up folders, and constant follow-ups.”
With a small HR team, Laura knew that they needed an integrated system that could simplify HR operations and ensure compliance, while giving managers more autonomy as the organisation expanded.
The solution
After evaluating several options, Laura selected ELMO for its all-in-one platform that would seamlessly integrate all HR functions.
“ELMO had everything in one place. I wanted a system that combines all HR functions, eliminating the need for multiple platforms. Another key priority was a provider that offered outstanding customer care and post-implementation support,” she explains.
The new ELMO system automated much of the manual work, from creating electronic forms to automated notifications that prompted managers on necessary steps. ELMO vastly improved the recruitment process by automatically receiving and sorting CVs received from agencies and job boards, eliminating the need to sift through email attachments.
Managing the implementation largely on her own, Laura found ELMO’s support invaluable, particularly from her consultant Joy. “Joy was incredibly supportive throughout the process. She took the time to understand our needs and provided practical solutions that made the transition smoother. Her guidance was invaluable,” Laura explains.
The benefits
Outstanding implementation support
Scalable learning with integrated LMS and performance management
Manager autonomy with self-service tools
Centralised access to documents and workflows
The shift to ELMO transformed the HR operations, freeing Laura and her lean team to focus on more strategic initiatives. “HR processes are now more efficient and accessible. Managers can navigate the system independently, and all documents and workflows are stored centrally for easy access.” Laura says.
Laura also emphasises how ELMO’s LMS has benefitted the ADC, particularly in promoting a culture of continuous learning and compliance. “We’ve built our own safe and respectful workplace modules tailored to our needs as part of the onboarding process, along with automated reminders for annual renewal, embedding learning into our culture.”
Another key factor in Laura’s decision was ELMO’s commitment to ongoing support. “During my research, I found that other providers didn’t offer the same level of post-implementation support. The ELMO Academy and the customer success management support stood out, which made a big difference in our decision.” Laura recalls.
By automating processes the ADC has enhanced efficiency while supporting workforce growth and Laura is confident that the organisation’s choice to implement ELMO will continue to deliver long term value.
