Understanding ELMO and Features

ELMO is the Complete AI Workforce Platform™ unifying HR, payroll and rostering on one connected data foundation, layering native AI to surface workforce insights and recommend next steps.

Paired with ISO-certified security, Australian-based data hosting and local experts who support adoption and guide change, ELMO is the trusted provider of HR and payroll technology to 2,000+ organisations and over a million end users across Australia and New Zealand.

ELMO is relevant to mid-sized New Zealand organisations with 100 to 5,000 employees that need to reduce HR administration and improve workforce visibility and planning.

ELMO helps organisations manage award or compliance complexity, office and frontline workers, multiple sites and serves industries including healthcare, education, manufacturing, services, retail, hospitality, financial services, local government and construction.

ELMO is designed for mid-sized organisations in New Zealand with 100 to 5,000 employees, particularly those managing complex compliance requirements, multiple worker types, multiple sites or lean HR teams. Native AI and local ANZ expertise help teams reduce administration and make more informed workforce decisions.

Yes, ELMO is suitable for ANZ organisations, especially mid-market businesses managing regional HR, payroll and workforce complexity. It combines HR, payroll and workforce management with ANZ compliance depth and local expert support, helping organisations run today and plan for tomorrow.

ELMO helps mid-sized ANZ organisations move from tactical HR administration to strategic workforce readiness, covering the full employee lifecycle in one secure system.

Organisations can use it to hire and onboard people, create rosters, pay accurately, develop capability and plan future workforce needs. Native AI features in the platform help automate tasks, answer workforce questions in plain language and recommend next steps.

ELMO is broader than a traditional HRIS.  It combines HR, payroll, and workforce management on a single connected data foundation, supporting processes across the employee lifecycle.

A traditional HRIS generally describes the core system used to manage employee information and HR processes, while ELMO extends across hiring, onboarding, scheduling, pay, development and workforce planning.

ELMO offers a connected suite of HR products covering the employee lifecycle. This includes HR Core, Recruitment, Onboarding, Payroll, Learning, Performance, Remuneration, Rostering and Insights. Together, these solutions support employee records, hiring, onboarding, pay, learning, performance, scheduling and workforce analytics.

ELMO helps solve business problems such as fragmented employee data, manual HR admin, disconnected workflows, compliance complexity and limited workforce visibility. By connecting HR, payroll and workforce management on one employee data foundation, it allows teams to automate routine work and act on trusted workforce insights.

ELMO Products and HR Capabilities

ELMO HR Core helps HR teams manage employee records and core HR workflows by acting as the main employee record system of the ELMO platform. It is the foundation that centralises employee data and connects workflows across the employee lifecycle, supporting ANZ organisations.

ELMO Payroll helps payroll and HR teams run connected payroll by matching organisations to a suitable payroll system from a curated network of best-of-breed payroll partners suited to your industry, scale and award complexity.

For ANZ organisations, this can support local payroll requirements and connected HR workflows. The selected payroll partner determines payroll-engine behaviour, compliance scope, award coverage and integrations, so confirm the fit before contracting.

ELMO Performance helps HR and managers run structured performance reviews by supporting self-assessments, manager ratings, 360 feedback, goal and OKR setting, calibration, checkpoints and development objectives.

Connect performance outcomes with ELMO Remuneration for pay-review decisions and ELMO Learning for development-plan execution. Exact workflows and integrations depend on configuration. Review the appraisal workflow and development needs you want to standardise first.

Yes. ELMO supports the full employee cycle from recruitment and onboarding through to HR management, learning, performance, remuneration, payroll and more. The products and integrations available to each customer depend on the selected products and implementation scope.

Yes. ELMO Recruitment helps HR and talent teams manage job advertising, applicant tracking, candidate screening and hiring workflows. Accepted hires can then move into ELMO Onboarding, supporting a smoother handover into the employee lifecycle.

ELMO Learning helps HR and L&D teams deliver workplace learning and compliance training by assigning mandatory courses by role or location, tracking completion and expiry, issuing certificates and producing audit-ready reports. It also supports capability development through Course Builder and an optional 400+ course Content Library.

ELMO Insights helps HR, People & Culture and business leaders answer workforce questions in seconds. It is an analytics product for workforce reporting with dashboards, reports and an AI Data Assistant, allowing users to ask questions in plain English. It is designed for HR managers, People & Culture teams and business leaders who need workforce visibility without technical expertise.

ANZ Compliance and Payroll

ELMO Payroll supports New Zealand payroll requirements through capabilities such as Payday Filing and KiwiSaver, l coverage depending on the selected partner engine and configuration. Access to sensitive payroll data is controlled through role-based permissions, and HR Audit reporting helps organisations review changes. ELMO also maintains privacy and information security policies, supported by a privacy committee and an ISO 27001-certified Information Security Management System.

ELMO can provide audit-ready compliance reports across areas such as mandatory learning and certification, onboarding checks and payroll data. Reports can show training completion and expiry status, compliance evidence and changes to pay-critical employee data, while payroll integrations log changes and conflicts through the Integration Dashboard. The exact reports available depend on the payroll solutions and configuration in use.

Yes. ELMO Payroll is designed for New Zealand payroll environments and can support relevant leave, allowances and pay rules, including New Zealand requirements such as Payday Filing and KiwiSaver. New Zealand can validate the applicable IRD payroll guidance.

AI, Security and Data Privacy

No. ELMO does not use customer data to train third-party or public AI models.

ELMO uses a defence-in-depth approach to protect employee information. Controls include role-based access, multi-factor authentication, encryption at rest and in transit, threat monitoring, intrusion detection and prevention, centralised logging, vulnerability scanning, independent penetration testing and reviews of privileged accounts.

Yes. ELMO’s AI features are designed to support human decision-making, not replace it. AI-generated content is clearly identified, and people can review and edit outputs before they are approved or used. Human oversight remains especially important for consequential people decisions.

Yes, AI features in ELMO are optional. You can disable them at any time in Settings, and your core workflows will continue to operate as normal.

Yes. ELMO is committed to using and managing AI transparently and ethically and holds the international standard for Artificial Intelligence Management Systems (ISO/IEC 42001:2023 certified). For New Zealand customers, data processing occurs within Australian AWS regions aligned with the NZ Privacy Act 2020, and AI features are governed by the same ethical principles, design guardrails, and human-in-the-loop controls applied across the platform.

ELMO customer data is securely hosted in AWS data centres located in Australia. Each customer has a separate database, encrypted backups are created daily and ELMO maintains a transparent list of subprocessors that support our services.  ELMO follows privacy-by-design principles and applicable privacy obligations.

ELMO is ISO/IEC 27001:2022 and ISO/IEC 42001:2023 certified globally. ISO/IEC 27001 relates to information security management, while ISO/IEC 42001 relates to artificial intelligence management systems.

ELMO reduces hallucination risk by using Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) to ground AI responses in verifiable, factual data. Instead of answering from memory, the system retrieves relevant data from our verified database to construct an answer.

Yes. AI-generated draft is clearly flagged in ELMO. HR administrators can see the original AI suggestion and track the human edits made before final approval.

Implementation, Integrations and Support

Every ELMO implementation follows a structured, collaborative process covering scoping and requirements, project planning, data preparation, configuration, testing, user acceptance testing and training. After go-live, customers receive hypercare, optimisation and a handover to Support, Account Management and Customer Success.

Our Customer Success team helps customers turn implementation into long-term value. Customer Success Managers work with your team to support adoption and optimisation, with guidance that can include reviewing modules and system design, analysing usage, training new administrators, making configuration changes and introducing new features. The level of ongoing support depends on your package and needs.

Yes. ELMO can migrate employee data from spreadsheets or another HR system as part of implementation, depending on the supported structures and scoped fields. Once ELMO has received a clean, current source data, we will guide mapping, import and testing.

ELMO products share data through controlled integrations. Each workflow or field is assigned to the relevant source of truth. HR data may feed connected modules, while payroll-specific fields remain governed by the selected payroll engine.

Yes. ELMO can be configured for different entities, locations and employment conditions using organisational structures, role-based access, configurable fields, workflows and product settings. Configuration may vary based on the selected products, payroll engine, integration design and implementation scope.

Implementation time depends on the products selected, workforce size and complexity, data quality, integrations, configuration, testing, customer decisions and change readiness. ELMO’s implementation team will provide a plan based on your organisation’s requirements.

Yes. ELMO can connect through standard file or API patterns, partner integrations or custom integration work, depending on the system, data flow and mapping requirements. Standard options may include pre-built payroll connectors and single sign-on, while non-standard mappings or new systems require technical scoping.

ELMO provides implementation training and change support through consultant-led configuration workshops, ELMO Academy, end-user training, in-system guides and Help Centre resources.

If you’re new to ELMO, you can speak to our team here to discuss products, scope and delivery. Existing customers log in to the ELMO Help Desk to lodge a ticket or speak to your Account Manager or Customer Success Manager.

Pricing, Procurement and Business Case

ELMO pricing depends on the products selected, organisation size, payroll requirements, implementation scope and ongoing support needs. Contact the ELMO team for a tailored quote.

An ELMO subscription covers the products included in your agreement. Implementation, data preparation or migration, integrations, training, ongoing support, Customer Success packages, payroll-partner charges and third-party integration fees may affect the total cost.

ELMO is designed primarily for mid-market organisations that want a connected employee-lifecycle platform and have enough process or integration complexity to benefit from a shared foundation. The right fit depends on your organisation’s size, workforce complexity, products and integration requirements.

While a standalone tool may offer greater depth in one workflow, ELMO reduces the number of separate employee-lifecycle systems and integration handoffs by combining HR, payroll and rostering on one connected data foundation.

Pricing depends on the products and services included in your agreement. Your ELMO representative can explain the pricing structure for your organisation and the products you select.

The total cost of implementing ELMO may include the subscription, implementation services, data preparation or migration, testing, training, integrations, connector builds and scoped change or professional services. Ongoing support, Customer Success packages, payroll-partner charges and third-party integration fees may also affect the total cost of ownership.

An independent Forrester Consulting Total Economic Impact study commissioned by ELMO modelled a 129% return on investment over three years, more than $1.2 million in quantified benefits and payback in under six months. The findings were based on a representative composite organisation informed by interviews with four ELMO customers, so results will vary by organisation.

A few details will help us tailor the demo to your organisation. Bring your employee numbers and types, locations, payroll setup, current HR, payroll, finance and identity systems, and the ELMO products or integrations you’re considering.

It’s also useful to share your implementation timeframe, decision criteria, key pain points, data-quality considerations, security or data-residency requirements, and the people involved in the decision.
