Get ready for changes to NZ Health and Safety legislation

The Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 (NZ) (the Act) is a piece of New Zealand health and safety legislation which will replace the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992 (NZ).

All New Zealand workplaces must be compliant on or before 4th April 2016.

The key aspects of the Act include:

  • Placing specific health and safety duties on Persons Conducting a Business or Undertaking (PCBUs), officers and workers;
  • Outlining the powers and responsibilities of Health and Safety Representatives (HSRs) and Health and Safety Committees (HSCs);
  • Creating three levels of offences relating to breaches of duties under the Act.

What action do you need to take?

For workplaces with access to the latest compliance content, it is recommended that you start implementing appropriate training for staff to ensure their safety, as well as remain compliant with the new Act.

For workplaces without access to the latest compliance content, the ELMO Course Library offers a wide range of pre-built compliance and professional development courses, including five new NZ specific health and safety modules built in response to the introduction of the Act:

  • Understanding the Health and Safety at Work Act;
  • Health and Safety Awareness;
  • Health and Safety for Managers;
  • Advanced Health and Safety;
  • Health and Safety for the Retail Industry.
